STEP BY STEP GUIDE FOR TAKING DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES

Although a student is already enrolled in the high school class, in order to receive college credit the student must also apply for admission to SVCC and enroll for the class with the college.

Step 1.
Apply for Admission to SVCC
 
Students must complete an SVCC Application for Admission , including the last page by a parent or legal guardian, and return the completed application to the guidance counselor, instructor or career coach. The application form is available at the Guidance office or at any SVCC location.  The Guidance Counselor or Career Coach will submit the completed Applications to SVCC prior to placement testing. Step 2.
Take the
Placement Test
Students must take the SVCC placement test and achieve acceptable scores to qualify for enrollment in the courses.  Students who have not submitted a completed Application for Admission will not be allowed to test.  Students who have already taken all parts of the placement test and achieved acceptable scores to qualify for enrollment do not need to take it again. Step 3.
Receive Placement Test Scores
SVCC will send test scores to the schools with recommendations regarding placement. Guidance Counselors must review the placement recommendations priot to placing students in DE classes. Students will receive their scores upon completion of the Placement Test and then will meet with an SVCC counselor. 
Step 4.
Enroll in Classes
SVCC personnel will come to the high school to register students for dual enrollment classes.  Students must sign the registration form in order to be registetred for the class.  Students placed in dual enrollment courses at the high school by the guidance department are assumed to have principal's permission to enroll in those classes only. Students bring the High School Official's Permission to Enroll form to SVCC's Registration Office along with a Registration Form signed by a SVCC counselor in Student Services.
Step 5.
Pay Portion of Tuition and Fees
If students are responsible for payment of a portion of the tuition and fees, this will be handled by policy set in accordance with the high school. Depending on the arraangements made with the high school, the student will either pay tuition and fees at the time of registration to the business office or show proof from a dual enrollment coordinator that payment is expected from a third party.
Step 6.
Rosters are sent for final approval
