The Pre-Engineering Academy is now part of the Governor's School of Southside Virginia.
The curriculum at the SVCC Pre-Engineering Academy, located on the John H. Daniel campus of Southside Virginia Community College, is designed to prepare students for success in baccalaureate degree programs with heavy emphasis in
math and science. Students may apply to this program in the high school sophomore year in order to begin in the junior yearl and continue the program in their senior year. Admission to this program
is competitive, and students must have at least a 3.0 or higher GPA and participate in an admissions testing process. Applicants to the Pre-Engineering
also must have completed Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. In the first year of the program, admitted students will enroll in Pre-Calculus I and II, Computer
Assisted Drafting, and Supervised Study. Senior year students will enroll in Digital Electronics, College Physics I and II, College Calculus I and II,
Seminar and Project, and Supervised Study. All courses in both years are Dual Enrollment with Southside Virginia Community College. Students have the
opportunity to earn 45-47 Dual Enrollment credits. Pre-Engineering Academy students will participate in SOL End-of-Course testing when required.
