Associate of Applied Science Degree Program

Purpose / Occupational Objectives /
Program Description / Special Admission Requirements

Purpose:

A two-year Associate of Applied Science degree program that provides graduates with a thorough foundation in computer drafting practices and software for architectural, industrial and mechanical design careers. Graduates may enter the job market directly with the Associate Degree or may transfer to a university to complete a bachelors or higher degree in numerous engineering technology programs such as mechanical, civil, environmental, land surveying, etc.

The program also provides students interested in art related careers such as computer graphics designer, animator, advertising assistant, publications assistant, internet web page designer, etc., with excellent foundation skills appropriate for these emerging careers. Students desiring to pursue graphics and animation careers are encouraged to take additional programming and software electives. Through careful selection of electives, students may also prepare for careers in new computer fields such as technical illustrator, technical writer, etc.

Students who finish this program and wish to teach at the secondary level can enter Virginia Tech as juniors and complete an additional two years of full-time study. Upon completion of the program, graduates will receive the Bachelor of Science degree in education and will be certified to teach at the secondary level in Virginia.
