Purpose:

A two-year Associate of Applied Science degree program that provides graduates with a thorough foundation in computer drafting practices and software for architectural, industrial and mechanical design careers. Graduates may enter the job market directly with the Associate Degree or may transfer to a university to complete a bachelors or higher degree in numerous engineering technology programs such as mechanical, civil, environmental, land surveying, etc.

Drafting is a career unto itself, and many find employment in the fields of architecture, civil engineering, electronics, or product design direclty upon completion of their courswork.  However, there are numerous paraprofessional fields that utilize or require drafting technology as an aspect of educational preparedness.  For example, the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) highlights thirty-seven separate career categories specifically listing technical drawing education:
