Certificate in Nurse Aide




 

SVCC offers Nurse Aide courses in 8 different locations. Upon successful completion of the one semester, 16 credit-hour program students receive the certificate needed to take the Virginia NNAAP (National Nurse Aide Assessment Program) Exam to became a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). Students also earn a Career Studies Certificate and may participate in the SVCC graduation. The College offers this program year round throughout the service area, with some programs taught during the day and some programs in the evening.

Nurse Aide Class

NUR 195 (5 credits) is the lecture class and lab providing the theory and skills practice.

NUR 196 (5 credits) includes clinical experience primarily in nursing homes.

NUR 199 (3 credits) is Supervised Study in Nurse Aide Skills, designed to help students    

                            prepare for their certification exam.

SDV 100 (1 credit) is a College Success Skills class.

HLT 100 (2 credits) is the First Aid and CPR certification class.

TOTAL CREDITS: 16

Occupational objectives for this program include working as a CNA in health-related agencies including nursing homes as well as home health positions acquired through placement agencies or private arrangements. There are a number of job opportunities in Southside Virginia for CNAs!

Completion of the requirements to become a Certified Nursing Assistant can be the first step on the educational ladder of the field of nursing.
