Alga Recognized as Outstanding SVCC Alumnus
Nan Abbott Alga has been selected as the Southside Virginia Community College Outstanding Alumnus for 2011. This award was established to recognize and honor an alumnus of the college who has demonstrated significant achievements in areas such as advancing the mission of the college, leadership through volunteer and public service, outstanding career accomplishments and serving as mentor to others.
Alga began attending SVCC in the fall of 1992 and graduated in spring 1994 with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She matriculated to Longwood College and earned her degree in Education in 1996. She then completed the Master of Science in Administration and Supervision degree from Longwood.
Alga served as the principal of LaCrosse Elementary School which was named a Title 1 Distinguished School for three years as well as the reciepient of the Governor’s School of Excellence award.
Currently Supervisor of Personnel with the Mecklenburg County Public Schools, she and her husband, David, reside in Clarksville. They have three children, Nadia Rogers and husband, Kevin, Jonathan Alga, Dustin Alga and one grandson, Levi Michael.
