SVCC Splits a Pair
The Southside Virginia Community College men’s basketball team earned a weekend split by topping Germanna CC (Fredericksburg) 101-75 on Sunday afternoon.
 The win improved SVCC to 9-8 overall and 6-4 in the Virginia Community College System standings.
SVCC jumped out to an early 15-4 lead on Tre Person’s bucket at the 14:46 mark of the first half.
Germanna fought back to close to 30-27 but Marcus Williams scored 10 straight points to give SVCC a 40-31 lead.
SVCC took a 44-34 lead to the halftime break.
SVCC opened the second half with a 12-2 run to take a 56-36 lead on Damienne Drumgold-Seward dunk at the 16:12 mark.
SVCC’s pressure defense frustrated Germanna as Markee Brooks picked up a steal and completed a 3-point play at the 6:03 mark for an 83-62 lead.
Person led SVCC with 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the game while Kierre Winfield tallied 18 points and added 10 rebounds.
Marcus Williams scored 18 points with eight assists and five rebounds while Drumgold-Seward added 18 points.
Markee Brooks also finished in double figures with 13 points for SVCC.

NOVA, 101-92
SVCC dropped a 101-92 decision to conference-leading Northern Virginia Community College at home on Saturday afternoon.
SVCC played with NOVA early in the first half until a late run gave the visitors a 54-47 halftime lead.
SVCC fell behind by 13 points midway through the second half but closed to 91-89 with 2:26 left to play.
The local team turned the ball over on their next trip down court however and failed to score on their next two possessions allowing NOVA to escape with the win.
Person led SVCC with 25 points in the game while Jevon Lockett scored 17 points. Winfield tallied 14 points and added 10 rebounds for SVCC while Seward added 11.
