Two free business seminars offered

Businesses in Southside Virginia can pick up valuable information at a pair of seminars being offered this month.

“Your Company’s Bridge To The Federal Government Marketplace"

The Brunswick County Industrial Development Authority and the Longwood Small Business Development Center will co-sponsor a FREE seminar on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at the Brunswick County Industrial Development Office,  116 West Hicks Street, Lawrenceville, Virginia.

Joanne Tompkins with the “Crater Procurement Assistance Center” will be the presenter.   Tammy Farmer with the Virginia Department of Business Assistance will also be available to assist you with how to do business with Virginia.

This seminar will teach you the basics of how to begin and where to look for government opportunities, assist you in identifying government markets as a prime contractor or sub-contractor and assist you with other services this organization has to offer.

Basic Bookkeeping and Payroll Seminar

The Mecklenburg Office of Economic Development and the Longwood Small Business Development Center present:  Basic Bookkeeping/Basic Payroll seminar for small business owners.  This FREE seminar will be held March 15, 2011 at the Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center, 118 E. Danville St.,  South Hill, Virginia from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.  Dave Slayton with the Longwood Small Business Development Center will be the presenter.

This seminar will emphasize the importance of financial management and record keeping, basic concepts for setting up and using a manual bookkeeping system, and analysis of financial reports based on the principles.  It will also cover basic payroll principles.
