SVCC Graduation Plans

Southside Virginia Community College will celebrate Commencement 2011 on the John H. Daniel Campus in Keysville on Saturday, May 14 at 9:30 a.m.  The public is invited to attend.

cap and gownSpeaker for the occasion is Melissa ‘Lisa’ Back, who has been employed as a faculty member at the college for the past 12 years.  She is Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology and Biology.  A dedicated faculty member, she teaches at least four course preps each semester, most with a lab component and has taught as many as six per semester.  She teaches at night and also during the summer, advises more than 200 students currently and served as advisor for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for seven years.  She has served as a Faculty Senate officer and on the Honor’s Program committee. 

A true Southside Virginian, she was born in Keysville and raised in Charlotte County. She received her BS in Medical Technology from University of Virginia and her MS in Environmental Science from Longwood University. She was a clinical microbiologist at University of Virginia prior to joining the faculty at SVCC.

A tent will be provided for graduates and the audience during the ceremony so there are no rain plans.
