Successful drive for "Madeline's House"

As a continuing part of Southside Virginia Community College’s efforts to support victims of domestic violence and domestic violence awareness, the men of Make It Happen recently sponsored a Wish List Drive for the Southside Center for Violence Gifts for Madeline's HousePrevention – Madeline’s House.  The Drive was very successful and netted many items to be used by Madeline’s House residents.

Madeline’s House is the only domestic violence shelter that serves 12 surrounding counties. Nine of these counties are a part of SVCC’s serving area. The agency has the capacity to provide up to 35 beds for abused women and their children. In addition to case management, the organization provides access to counseling and offers educational and personal growth programs, to include job search skills, professional development, and support groups.

Madeline’s House is named for Madeline Gearheart-Mitchell, a Farmville resident who was murdered by her husband on September 6, 1998.  By providing a supportive and caring environment, the organization strives to ensure that tragedies of this magnitude don't recur and that women in need have access to care and potentially life-saving resources.

On behalf of the men of Make It Happen, the Southside Center for Violence Prevention, Piedmont Crisis Center, and Madeline’s House, thank you for your support of this very worthy cause.
