SVCC Team Honored by "March of Dimes"
The Central Virginia Division of the March of Dimes would like to thank the Christanna Campus of Southside Virginia Community College for being our top college team at the Greater Farmville Area March for Babies event held April 3. Because of your efforts, the event was a spectacular success! Over 450 people attended the walk, celebration and Children’s Festival at Centra Southside Community Hospital and raised over $26,000 to date.
The SVCC/Christanna Walk Team raised over $4,150 and fielded over 50 registered walkers. Professor Martha Reed led the team, which included three $200-plus “Top Walkers”: Tammy Howard, Megan Menting and Gary Steele. Each of the top walkers will receive an event t-shirt plus a Weekend Getaway trip.
The second place College Team was Hampden-Sydney College Circle K, raising more than $3,700; Third place College Team was Longwood University with more than $2,200.
The March of Dimes will host a Prematurity Awareness event on SVCC/Christanna campus in November, 2011. If you’d like to help lead this event, or would like to be involved with the 2012 Greater Farmville Area March for Babies scheduled for Sunday, April 1, 2012, contact Betsy Rhodes at brhodes@marchofdimes.com
