New Student Orientation
New student orientation will take place on Thursday, August 18th at 10:00 A.M. on both of our primary campuses in the Workforce Development Centers. New students are encouraged to attend this informative and fun-filled day!
You’ll learn more about the campus and the services available, so join Student Services and many other Southside Virginia Community College faculty and staff as we embark on the journey of your first semester together. Each campus has their own theme and schedule of activities planned to get you started on the correct foot.
In Alberta, you can pick up your orientation packet and student activities sports bag between 9:30 and 10:00 A.M. Their theme this year is “You are a star.” As you register, you can choose to have a cartoon sketch made to document the beginning of your adventure at SVCC.
In Keysville, their theme this year is “Crusin’ To Success: What Is Your Destination?” Door prizes will be given to the first twenty-five students and throughout the event! Free lunch is provided and students will have the opportunity to get their student ID and stop by campus offices after orientation. Please note that Student Services will be closed while orientation is in progress. For more information please call Student Services or 736-2022/2023.
If you are planning to take an online course this semester, we will offer an online learning workshop after lunch on both campuses. This workshop will be approximately an hour and a half in length and will review logging in and accessing your courses, online resources at your disposal, accessing your student email, tips in working online, and navigating Blackboard. The specifics of the workshops will be sent to student email accounts and shared the morning of the orientation.
We are looking forward to seeing you at orientation and starting a new semester with you.
