Beginner's Quilting Class Offered

Southside Virginia Community College in Keysville is offering a non-credit Beginner’s Quilting class. Lori Mitchum-Burns whose work has been featured at MacCallum Ms. Micthum-BurnsMoore Museum and Gardens in Chase City, the Prizery and the South Boston Museum, will be teaching the class.

Mitchum-Burns learned to sew in Home Economics class in high school. She discovered a joy for quilting while living in Farmville and spent the last 18 years studying and practicing a variety of traditional methods.

A hands-on experience from basics to completion of five different quilting blocks, using both appliqué and piecing techniques, is the goal. Hand stitched as well as machine stitched processes will be taught. Students must be proficient using their own sewing machines and will need to bring them to class.

The Class will meet on the John H. Daniel campus, Tuesdays, 6:30-9:30pm, beginning February 1st and will run for five weeks. A small textbook will be available for purchase the first night of class .Pre-registration is required by calling 434-736-2011 or by e-mailing debbie.campbell@southside.edu
