SVCC Focusing Workforce Efforts in South Boston and Halifax

Southside Virginia Community College’s new Workforce Development Business Coordinator brings an energetic demeanor and wealth of business, industry and even Ms. Taylormilitary knowledge to her new job.  Pamela N. Taylor has joined the SVCC family and will concentrate efforts in the South Boston and Halifax County area.  In the present day economy, Taylor’s expertise will provide needed services to the area’s present and future workforce.  She will work with business and industry in the identification of educational and training needs.  In response to those needs, Taylor will provide organization development consultations, develop and deliver customized courses and programs as well as facilitate group and team processes.

Virginia's Community Colleges align education and economic development to extend workforce development courses, training and programs into the community. WDS prepares the emerging workforce by providing students with greater access to career options; serves employers through organization development consultation, and flexible and customized training; and, offers portable skills and credentials to the incumbent and displaced workforce.

Last year, more than 254,000 people benefitted from workforce programs and services across the Commonwealth.

A native of Southern Virginia for 30 years, Taylor and the SVCC Workforce services are available at the Virginia Workforce Center in South Boston.  The Center houses a full service One-Stop providing employment services to local businesses in partnership with the Virginia Employment Commission Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services, Southside Virginia Community College, Workforce Investment Act: Adult and Dislocated Workers Programs and Caring Arms Will Support- Title V Older Worker Programs.  Located at 2506 Houghton Street in South Boston, Taylor’s contact information is: 434-572-8289 or email at Pamela.Taylor@southside.edu

A U.S. Navy veteran, Taylor is a graduate of Paul D. Camp Community College, Christopher Newport University with a B.S. in Education and Troy University with a Masters in post-secondary Education and Instructional Technology.    Taylor trained at Columbia University in the institution’s Organization Development Practices Program.  She worked for 20 years as an Organization Development Consultant in manufacturing, production and executive environments with Union Camp Corporation, International Paper, GAP Inc., and Dollar General Corporation.  Taylor was awarded the Virginia Community College Chancellor's Award for Instructional Excellence two years in a row (2010 & 2011).

As a member and 2-year Adjutant of the Clarksville American Legion Post 45, she participates in hosting Kerr Lake fishing trips for Virginia and North Carolina disabled veterans. 

She is married to Bobby Taylor, a Dinwiddie County native, who is employed by Hewlett Packard in Clarksville.
