SVCC Spring Women’s Festival Lineup
Southside Virginia Community College will hold its 25th annual Spring Women’s Festival on Saturday, March 12, 2011, on the Christanna Campus in Alberta from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The event is being sponsored by the Christanna Campus, Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center, and the Southside Virginia Education Center of Southside Virginia Community College.
The Spring Women’s Festival, a popular annual event, will feature an extensive program offering 19 different workshops. Each participant will attend two workshop sessions while taking part in a delicious luncheon provided by Brian’s Steakhouse, a local restaurant from South Hill, and enjoying a fashion show presented Peebles Department Store. Students from Shannon School of Dance, South Hill, will perform dances throughout the fashion show.

Workshops
There will be a variety of workshops to choose from, both fun and informative.
Beads! Beads! Beads!, Randi Kei
Design and make your own Beaded Bracelet-Participants will choose beads and complete their own unique beaded bracelet.
Cake Decorating Made Easy!, Candi Adcock
Participants will learn the basic techniques in icing, trimming, and decorating cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. Techniques will include a variety of ways to decorate using easy yet unique designs and flowers. Each participant will leave with a decorating starter kit!
Chocolate at First Bite, Angela East
Do you have a sweet tooth? This is the workshop for you! Learn the techniques of melting and tempering chocolate delights such as chocolate dipped pretzels, chocolate dipped strawberries, candy and brownies.
Color Me Beautiful, Mary Gromovsky
What color looks best on me? This workshop has your answer-determine your correct color season and how it will enhance your image for all occasions.
Cookies! Cookies! Cookies!, Angela East
Do you want to become the next Betty Crocker? Learn the art of baking, rolling, and decorating cookies.
Director or Reflector, Bonita Claiborne
Are you someone who likes to give advice or tell others how to live? Or are you that person who lives life according to the advice you are given? This workshop will provide a Segway into how to develop your positive assets and how to direct them or reflect them.
I Wanna Facebook, Too!, LaDelta Williams
This workshop will cover the basics of developing a Facebook page. Attendees will learn how to: create a Facebook account securely; upload photos to the Facebook page (flash drive needed); create a Facebook profile; add friends and family; and more!
Monogrammed Hand Painted Wine Glasses, Randi Kei
Hand paint your own wine glass with your initial. Participants will paint and decorate 2 wine glasses with your choice of initial.
Never to Old to Dance, Cynthia Chambers
Participants will learn the art of movement to music that inspires and motivates.
Painting for the Novice, Karolyn Hawthorne
Participants will paint an 8X10 landscape in oil, probably a beach scene of sand dunes and the ocean. No previous painting skills needed.
Party Makers!, Tammy Hurt
Presenter will share various websites containing great culinary resources/recipes and discuss the various foods that are ideal for parties and how to properly display the arrangement of food for maximum appeal. Presenter will demonstrate one easy recipe and allow hands-on participation. A variety of food will be provided for tasting.
The Practice of Being Happy, Ed Conley
Things you can do at work and at home that will bring peace and happiness into your life. We will discuss and practice proven techniques that will help you identify stress and remove that stress while in stressful situations.
Presentation is Everything, Tammy Hurt
Presenter will demonstrate on how to decorate with food including platter arrangements, centerpieces, and food carving.
Skin Care 101, Mary Gromovsky
Will teach participants the importance of skincare and the correct products to use and how to properly apply makeup.
Styling with Less, Louise Ogburn
How to live like a Hollywood star on a Southside budget.
What’s’ New in Skin Care in 2011, Frannnie Schwabenton
Find out what the newest technology in skin care is in the New Year! You will be able to sample the products during the workshop. Before leaving you can apply color of your choice to show off at the luncheon!
Where is Your Stage, Bonita Cliaborne
Did you know when you walk out your door the world becomes your stage?
Participants will discover that the world is a stage and explore their role and how their role impacts others.
Wine Tasting at its Best, Stephen Rose (Rosemont Vineyards and Winery)
Participants will learn about the art of wine tasting and will taste 7-10 different types of wines. We will also discuss the wines and compare results. Participants will also receive a Rosemont of Virginia wine glass and a gift certificate for a glass of Rosemont of Virginia wine.
Zumba Workout Party, Michelle Harris
Learn about the origin of Zumba, and its basic dance moves. Participants will enjoy a simple routine got get your heart rate up, ending with a nice cool down.

There will be a Massage Therapist on site to assist participants with relieving stress. A sketch artist will be available to provide participants with a free caricature to take home.
The registration fee is $25.00 per person and includes a light breakfast, lunch, a fashion show, and Dance Performances, not recommended for children under age 12. Several of the workshops require an additional fee, as participants will be able to take items home or sample. Class sizes are limited so register early.
