Call Me Mister Program
The first annual Call Me MISTER membership drive was held on the Daniel Campus of Southside Virginia Community College on October 6th. This event identified 13 potential candidates for Longwood University’s Call Me MISTER leadership program.
Call Me MISTER (Men Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) is a national teaching initiative that aims to diversify the pool of available teachers. The program seeks to reverse the lack of men who are role models, leaders, and teachers, especially on the elementary school level. Program participants are largely selected from under-served and educationally at-risk communities.
Several post-secondary institutions and local school systems have partnered with Longwood University’s Call ME MISTER initiative, namely Southside Virginia Community College, St. Paul’s College, Prince Edward County Schools and Cumberland County Schools.
