Edmonds Named SVCC Dean Of Nursing And Health Technologies
Michelle King Edmonds has been named Dean of Nursing and Health Technologies for Southside Virginia Community College. In this capacity, Edmonds will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of all health technology programs of the college which include Nursing, Health Sciences, Practical Nursing, Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Virginia Commonwealth University where she graduated cum laude and received her Master’s in Nursing Leadership and Administration from Old Dominion University in 2001.
Most recently, she served at Community Memorial Healthcenter in South Hill as Director of Emergency Department, Health and Wellness Services, and CMH Orthopedic Service. She also was an adjunct faculty member for SVCC’s nursing program teaching Medical Terminology, Drug Dosage Calculations and CPR and has served as an adjunct faculty for the University of Phoenix Online. She also has served as Director of Emergency Services for Greensville Memorial Hospital.
Edmonds is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society Gamma Omega Chapter, VCU/MCV Alumni Association, Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity Sigma Lambda Chapter, American Organization of Nursing Executives and Virginia Organization of Nursing Executives. Her professional credentials include Registered Nurse State of Virginia, Board Certified in Nursing Administration from the ANCC, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Training, Pediatric Advanced Life Support Training, Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum Training and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course.
She was a presenter at the 2008 American Organization of Nurse Executives National Meeting held in Seattle, Washington and contributed an article in the professional magazine, Advance for Nurses.
Since the college’s beginning, SVCC’s nursing and health sciences programs have expanded to include four locations to train Practical Nurses, three programs to offer the entire course for Registered Nurses without leaving the Southside Virginia area for training, Emergency Medical Technology and numerous classes in Nurse Aide and phlebotomy. The college is proud to provide training for the people who take care of Southside Virginians.
