SVCC "Stars" Recognized

The Virginia Community College System recently recognized four members of the Southside Virginia Community College team. They were highlighted because of their hard work, leadership and dedication to the mission of the Virginia Community Colleges.   The showcase event was held at the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, Virginia on October 2, 2009.

The theme for the evening was Be a Star! Light the Way!  The following stars recognized from SVCC were Sabrina Williams (Staff Member), Judy Keehan (Staff Member), Martha Reed (Faculty Member), and Stephanie Currin (Faculty Member).

Southside Virginia Community College employees recently were recognized as Showcase Recipients by the Virginia Community College Association.  Those chosen from the local college are (Left to Right) Stephanie Currin of Saxe, faculty, Judi Keehan of Richmond, staff, Sabrina Williams of Alberta, staff, and Martha Reid of Blackstone, faculty.

Sabrina Williams holds the title Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Instruction and also is an Adjunct Instructor who has been with the college on the Christanna Campus for five years. Williams holds an AA&S in Business Administration from Southside Virginia Community College and also a BS in Business Administration from Old Dominion University. She is a member of the Virginia Community Colleges Association and the SVCC Classified Staff Association. Williams received the Southside Virginia Community College Excellence in Teaching, Teaching Peer from 2002 to 2007 and in 2000 was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Judy Keehan is the Administrative Support Specialist III, Receptionist on the John H. Daniel Campus.  Keehan has been with the College for 19 years. She is a high school graduate and is a member of the Virginia Community Colleges Association. Keehan has been married for 43 years and has three children and six grandchildren.

Martha Reed is an Assistant Professor of Biology on the Christanna Campus. She has been with the College since 1993.  Reed received her A.B. in Biology from Randolph-Macon Women’s College and her M.S. in Entomology from Virginia Tech.  Reed co-coordinates a gleaning network that harvests food grown by local farmers to help feed those who are in need. Reed has also participated in mission trips to Ridgeville, SC to help the Edisto Indians with home repairs.

Stephanie Currin has been a Middle College Instructor on the John H. Daniel Campus for five years. Currin received her A.A.S. from Southside Virginia Community College, her B.S. from Longwood College and has taken additional graduate work at Longwood University, University of Virginia and also at Old Dominion University. Currin is a member of the Literacy Fair of Virginia-Board and also the Virginia Association for Adult and Continuing Education. Currin has received numerous awards and honors: Chancellor’s Workforce Development Instructor’s Award, is a Master Teacher’s Graduate from Hampden Sydney College and a SVCC Honor’s Graduate. She was also a member of Who’s Who Among Students and is a Phi Theta Kappa Alumni.
