The national crisis of healthcare workforce shortage hits rural communities like Southside Virginia harder than the rest of the country.
Southside Community College, Community Memorial Healthcenter of South Hill, Halifax Regional Hospital of South Boston, Centra Southside Copmmunity Hospital of Farmville and Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center of Emporia have partnered to create a dynamic community iniative to address this shortage.
As a result of this partnership, nursing students at Southside Virginia Community College no longer have to travel to Richmond to complete their second year of study.
Southside Virginia Community College serves a community just a bit smaller than the state of Connecticut (the largest community college service area in Virginia!).

Southside Virginia Community College is dedicated to the belief that all citizens should be given an opportunity to acquire an educational foundation that develops and extends their skills and knowledge. The college’s goal is to provide diverse instructional programs ranging from developmental studies to associate degree curricula in academic, technical / vocational, lifelong education, and workforce development.
