Would you believe you can work out on the mini trampoline and improve your learning skills at the same time? Bridges can help you! The Bridges program develops and strengthens thinking abilities and perceptual skills for students who have found some aspects of learning difficult.

Have you experienced one or more of the following?

  • Difficulty paying attention in class
  • A hard time understanding what the instructor is saying
  • Trouble reading and/or understanding the textbook
  • Not passing a class one or more times
  • Difficulty taking notes from the board
  • Difficulty keeping your eyes focused on what you are reading or writing
  • A history of working on your schoolwork with tutors, teachers, family or friends and finding it didn't help
  • Stumbling over words when reading out loud
  • An inability to understand a set of directions
  • Taking a very long time to complete classroom work and tests
  • A discouraged feeling because you really try hard, but still do not do well in one or more of your classes
  • A desire to improve your learning

If you have experienced one or more of the above, then the Bridges program may help you. We have what you need: effective learning techniques.

About the Program

Need a little balance in your step? OR How about a little balance in your life?

The Bridges Learning Center may be right for YOU! Bridges is a very special program designed to assist students to be successful in the world of words, numbers, theories, and concepts. It is based on a learning model called Structure of Intellect (SOI) which identifies, develops, and strengthens mental abilities that students use when they are learning. The SOI Model is concerned with how to learn what not to learn.

The activities in the Bridges Lab are designed to help the student improve such skills and abilities as:

  • memory and recall
  • concentration
  • sustained focus
  • accuracy
  • control
  • balance
  • critical thinking
  • plus many more cognitive, perceptual, and sensory integration skills

Assessment

We Bridge the gap from just connecting students to the students really connecting! The student is referred to the Bridges lab to meet with the lab technician. After learning about the program, the student is assessed in three major areas: cognitive abilities sensory integration skills focusing skills What do you see? Change the way you look with Bridges. The assessment does not measure how much the student knows, but is concerned with measuring the presence of abilities and skills that are necessary. Learning Plan The results of the assessment are profiled and evaluated and an individual learning plan is developed to improve the student's "mental muscle" which are needed for learning. The lab technician discusses with the student the goals of the learning plan and establishes a lab schedule. The technician is in the lab assisting and observing as the student moves along the Bridges Learning continuum.

Work in the lab

Scheduled time in the lab is planned around the student's class and work schedule. A lab technician who is specially trained guides the participant through a series of activities and exercises which all focus on improving learning abilities. The technician will work with each student as he/she progresses through approximately 40 hours of lab time. The student who desires three credit hours of free elective may register for STD 108. The student can enter the Bridges program at any time and can exit when the required proficiencies are met.
